Wow. This setting is so contemporary and reminds us that we can use repro fabrics in contemporary setting for just such a look. Still looking at my 70′s calicos but now I want to dig into my 30′s repros. I love buying stash discards at thrift shops…..it gives me such a variety of fabrics without the hefty price. Guess i better finish the quilt I am working on before moving to either.
Gorgeous! It is such a happy quilt now. Really beautiful. What a visionary you are! Very brave too. The 70′s quilt cutting would have terrified me but you resuscitated that one too!
even with all the blocks trimmed to the same size it still takes a while to piece together…the irregularity of the piecing makes the matching points harder to line up….but worth the effort
Thanks!…I know that it was pretty as it was but I really bought it because I wanted to try out some new layout ideas…. but I almost left it alone because it was so nice. I’m glad that I decided to go for it
I agree I was wondering why you would cut it apart- i will not question again-I will wait to see the finished product! You have inspired me to dig out some of my tops and blocks and I am looking at them in new ways! Just because i bought them set a certain way doesn’t mean they nee to stay that way! Inspiring!
I have not decided on a quilting pattern yet….but I think it will be something simple…I usually say that and then end up with something much more complex…but I do intend it to be simple
it is looking great such a new look for an old quilt.
Karen
thanks….It does look like a different quilt
That looks “fan” tastic !!!! I really like that setting !!!!
thanks!, love it….”fan” tastic
Great progress!
thanks!

thanks Lisa….I agree ….fabric from one era can work in a pattern or setting from another
This looks great-love the setting you chose and look at those fabrics!
the fun fabrics are what made me want to buy the top…they just make me happy….and it is fun to explore a new layout with them

Thanks!…..My new theory on old tops is that there is nothing to be afraid of…they dont work as they are so jump in and attchk
Great way of putting it all back together!

Such an improvement over the original (which was nice to begin with), I can hardly wait to see what you’ll do with the quilting.
I am not sure what I will do with the quilting….I think I will just put it in the hoop and see what happens
I keep seeing raindrops, especially where the arcs meet the arcs from the previous row…
that area does look a bit like a raindrop….I will have to think on how to enhance that
I have to admit when you first showed the quilt, I didn’t want you to mess with it. I was wrong – it looks amazing now. What vision you have!

I do have several that I want to keep just as they were first made….but some of those that need work anyway are fair game to re-do in my own way
Looks great – like the way you’ve used lots of different fabrics too! =D
Thanks
all the fabrics are vintage, and came from the original quilt top that I started from
Nice to see it not only being preserved, but made beautiful =D
I love how it looks now with your layout. What a great way to bring an old quilt top back to life. I can’t wait to see how you quilt this one.
