Quilting begins on the “fruit salad”

DSCN1762

I started hand quilting the “fruit salad” quilt that I pieced a few weeks ago (here is the post about piecing it http://timquilts.com/2014/04/12/ )

DSCN1484

I am using #8 perle cotton thread, and a Fons & Porter Utility quilting needle …which is actually just a size 5 embroidery needle in a different package) but they are good quality and sharp.

For the strippy blocks I am quilting straight lines….all the orange space I have yet to decide on a pattern, but I will know when I get there ;)

I don’t think it will be an elaborate quilting design, the top is really busy enough on its own, so it should be a relatively fast finish.

If the weather is good I plan to get some gardening done in the next few days!

for now Happy Quilting

Tim

All that lovely orange to quilt in! Given the name of the quilt, surely you could squeeze in a fruit or two…?

Ah, I can well see the thread on the pictures, gives a good idea ! But your stitches still seem very small and not “utility”! :o
Thank you again for your help concerning quilting thread and perle cotton!
With this fabric under my eyes and in hands I surely would need a bowl of fresh fruit beside! Makes watering the mouth! :)
    Best wishes!

      Thanks!…
I do think I need to get some fruit to eat as I work on this!….
I just measured so you can get an idea there are 6 stitches per inch on this, so they aren’t all that small

Looks like a really colourful quilt – I think it would be awesome for a holiday home or over summer!
