Flea Market Find

A few weeks ago I went to a flea market and bought this trunk.  I have to be careful about going because I find that I have a hard time resisting buying stuff, and I don’t want to end up being featured on the TLC hoarder show!

However this was only $25…and it is going to make a great coffee table once I clean it up,  and lots of storage room inside.

I have not worked on any quilting except the whole cloth, but it is progressing nicely (click pictures to enlarge)

Happy Collecting and quilting

Tim

I have a trunk just like that one, it was my grandfather’s trunk who came to the USA from Denmark in 1911! A very heavy trunk and no wheels to get through the airport, whoops, he came by ship through Ellis Island!

  2. What a wonderful trunk and an awesome price. What a great place to store some quilts!

Haha- I hear you about the hoarding!! Just got back to EL and looking at this house, I am thinking of the word “Hoarding” I think I am going to have to have an enormous clear out here.

Ann I think If I had a house in 2 places like you I would be even worse….because then I would need to hoard 2 of everything, good luck with the clear out!….but dont get rid of anything you will regret!

We refinished one for a family member iin the last year. The cloth or canvas cover was in shreds so we removed it to the metal corners. We then used a scotchbrite pad and cleaned all the glue off and used a liberal coating of tung oil on the wood parts. The metal parts we used a flat black oil based paint. We did not hav e the inner tray, but my husband built one and we lined it all with wallpaper to make it clean and useable. She uses it for sweaters and as a coffee table. Hope your turns out as well as this one did. Chris

Great find! The more I look at the batik on the back of your whole cloth quilt, the more wonderful I think it would be as a quilted jacket! Gorgeous colors. How will you bind it?
