I got a new quilt top yesterday. It is from an eBay seller in Texas. here is how the seller described it:
*RARE, KOOKY, HAYWIRE, VINTAGE, REVERSE, MIRROR IMAGE, HAND PIECED, FRUIT BASKET, QUILT TOP
*THIS IS A FABULOUS FIND FROM THE DEEP SOUTH AND ONE THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS OWNING. THIS QUILT TOP IS PIECED IN A WILD KOOKY HAYWIRE MANNER, WITH FRUIT BASKETS GOING ONE WAY ON THE LEFT AND ANOTHER WAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE
*FABRICS: OLD COTTONS
*HAND PIECED
*MEASUREMENT: 70″ X 90″
*CONDITION: GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION.
It is a bit haywire but I love it. I’m thinking that a southern quilt of this age would have been quilted in a Baptist Fan pattern.
Here is one with different baskets, but similar age and also from the south

Happy Quilting

Nice! I looked at that quilt and thought the first thing I’d do is remove that “gathered” (intentionally gathered, or not …) and go forward from there. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
that border is rather gathered, not intentionally, just poorly applied…so I will need to re-do that part, that should be pretty easy since its all hand pieced…those stitches rip out fast
Yes that was my thinking, about redoing the border. Never got around to bidding (and $$ is tight this close to Christmas), but glad you got it and can’t wait to see what you do with it!
I am looking forward to working on it….but lots of other projects in line first
The color is a bit odd, but I adore the placement of the baskets. Someone was not wanting to to ‘stay in the box’!
exactly….they just let the rules go and placed the baskets however felt good! and the color is not photographing as well as it should….the blue in the pictures is looking more purplish than it really is
Kooky and fun! And looks like some nice even hand piecing from the back! Great find!
aside from the border it is realy well made…should be a great one to quilt
