Batik project

I have yet another new project in the planning stage.   This one will use Batik Fabrics.

They are so cool.   Lots of variety

My camera is not doing them justice , the colors are really much brighter.

They are from Lelia and Co. Fabric and Design and are 100% cotton and 100% handmade and available in their Etsy Shop  The pictures there are much better.

I am prewashing them all now and while they are in the wash I started playing with some ideas for a quilt layout (I used the center of the last quilt and made some changes)

Batik plan

I did not scan the fabrics yet to get an accurate mock-up but here is the start of the plan just using some fabrics out of the EQ program.

I’m sure there will be a few changes before I get it all ready to go but I really like it so far.

I will of course hand quilt it when I finish the piecing.

Happy Quilting

Tim

I find batiks very difficult to hand quilt. Good luck with it!

I think you’re getting yourself in the mood for winter; that quilt design is another giant snowflake, but in tropical colours! With those patterns and colours, you won’t need a whole lot of quilting, I think, but you may prove me wrong!

I might be able to control myself and keep the quilting simple…..will see….I hadn’t noticed it but it does look like a giant snowflake……must be stuck in my head

Now THIS is going to be interesting. They fabrics on their own are gorgeous. A very tasty challenge.

I did a test block….it is going to take FOREVER to make the top……but it is going to be worth it…a long term project

Yes, I can imagine the piecing is going to be tricky partly because, I’m suspecting, the texture of the materials, and partly, naturally, the complexity.

Hand quilting a batik fabric? I will add you to my prayer list, Tim. Batiks are a real bugger to hand quilt!

Paper piecing? is that the same as ‘foundation piecing’? Great looking project, all those colours will give both expected and unexpected beauty.

Will be interested to see what you use for “background” fabric.
