I finished piecing the Luxury Essentials blocks.

I made 48 blocks and the layout is 8 rows of 6, finishing at 72″ x 96″.    I think I am going to make one more block and make it 7 rows of 7 blocks to finish at 84″ square.

I do have enough fabric to make another block

here is one block

If I layout all the blocks in this orientation (long pieces at top and bottom) This is how it looks

If I alternate the blocks by turning every other block the look changes

Not a huge difference but I think it looks much more random this way.

I will give it a day and think about it before I sew all the blocks together.

I will use the same fabrics for the binding as I used in the centers.   I need to decide on a backing fabric.  I think I will know it when I see it so a trip to the store is in order.

Do you remember cousin It from the Adams Family?

Here is the pile of thread tails I accumulated while making these blocks

I have another bundle of fabrics to design a top with

This one is also part of the giveaway.  There is still time to enter.  The Drawing will be Thursday (enter here) …..I am trying to teach Teddy to pull numbers out of a hat but so far no luck so I think It will be a random number generator that will do the selection.   I will notify the winners on Friday.

Teddy decided to ball up his quilt on top of a few pillows and sit on top of it.

He can see out the window better from a higher perch.

Hand quilting tonight will be more work on the Antique applique quilt.

I am thinking of doing another version of the snowflake quilt using the same pattern.

I want to do one with much less quilting…only the outline of the design.    All that filling takes a lot of time and can be intimidating

and I think it would still be a pretty cool quilt if it were done without the filling stitches.  I am thinking of doing it with red perle cotton thread.

Happy Quilting

I like it, it’s good — the blue pops, the dark recedes, it’s got a bas relief effect. We were just at MoMa on Sunday and went through the Mondrian room, so I know what I’m talking about. And it is harmonious…in a random way.

Hi Tim. I like the second layout best. It does have a more random appearance. I also like the idea of making one more block and creating a square quilt. Don’t know why, but I like square quilts best. Teddy is so cute on “his” quilt! It must make you smile every time you see Teddy and his quilt together; it would me. Still love the fabrics. The ones you have used are gorgeous.

Snowflake: red on white – love it. Maybe wind swirls out from the center wrapping round the jingle bells. For some reason your reindeer snowflake ideas have me jingled up – looking forward to the next incarnation.

Your quilt is beautiful! I love all the bright colors in it and like the random layout best. Your little “helper” Teddy is a cutie.

As a matter of fact, I’d love to see it in white on a red background!

  6. You are just amazing! I think 7 x 7 blocks would look wonderful, but then I always like square for some reason. The reindeer look gorgeous quilted, not sure about intimidating. I look forward to the next one! And Teddy is as sweet as ever.

I’m also voting for the second layout! As for size, go with which one fits the beds in the house best. (Never hurts to be practical)
Teddy knows how to stay warm and still have a view.

The red & green quilt is looking really good. I look forward to seeing the whole quilt laid out for the full view. Red & green quilts with lots of quilting like this are one of my favourites!
