It has been a long time since I have posted. I have been very busy, here are some pictures of a bit of what I have been up to. (click pictures to enlarge)
I really thought about stopping the blog for good. It is not inexpensive to pay the fees it takes to keep it up and running, and it takes several hours a week to do. I didn’t mind doing it , in fact I truly enjoyed it.
So what made me want to stop?
Frankly I was hurt by a lot of negative comments. I have been hand quilting for several hours a day for 10 years, and blogging about it for many of those years. I still love to do it but frankly I was feeling rather stale.
I started to do machine quilting on my antique treadle sewing machines and got very excited by it, it was new to me and expanded what I could do and it really refreshed my creativity and outlook ( I still hand quilt for 3 or more hours a day)
But I started to get comments like ” I prefer hand quilting” , I wish you would hand quilt more” ” don’t you ever hand quilt anymore” ” hand quilting is so much prettier” “I like your hand quilting so much better” ……….
and I was feeling guilty for machine quilting and felt like I was letting people down…this was a real conflict. I can’t quilt (by hand or machine) unless it is enjoyable and feeling guilty about doing something I enjoy was not working so I simply stopped blogging.
I made a video about a few weeks ago where I talked about it…..you will probably need to turn up the volume to hear it
I have added several videos to my YouTube channel about both hand quilting and machine quilting and embroidery…..you can see them here
My new attitude is that I have to do quilting that excites and challenges me no matter what is expected of me. With that new attitude I am back to blogging ……. but It has to be fun for me so expect a mix of machine and hand quilting and other things that I am interested in as well.
