The Capitol Area Quilt Guild show is this week.
And Teddy won 2 ribbons! best machine quilting and best original design
I am so excited to get an award for machine quilting because I did the quilting on an antique treadle machine.
I am still not feeling up to par (I could only take a few hours at the quilt show) but I rally when I get to talk quilts…..I will be doing a presentation for the Tri-County Quilt Guild in Warren MI on Thursday, November 2nd at 10:00 am (First United Methodist Church of Warren 5005 Chicago Road Warren, MI. 48092.
I will be bringing the Teddy quilt to show at that meeting. (as well as about 25 others)
I finished the Tree Quilt (actually this one is a study for the larger tree quilt)
I decided to offer it for sale https://www.etsy.com/listing/546834507/blue-moon-art-quilt?ref=shop_home_active_1
The top for the Singer VS2 arrived. It needs a lot for work! but it is going to be great.
I will post some more pictures as I work on cleaning it up.
I am working on a leather briefcase/messenger bag on one of my Singer 15’s
And I did a video
I am going to see a physical therapist on Wednesday…..hopefully I can get the kinks worked out of my shoulders and elbows and knees. I had x-rays of my hands and they showed degeneration many of the joints in the fingers, thumbs and wrists ….will see what they can do about that if anything.
I’ll keep you posted. Fortunately none of this is bothered by machine quilting so I have plenty to keep my busy! I have a few hand quilting projects in progress forever now that I really want to finish so hopefully soon.
I spent last night and today making a new bag. This one is made with recycled denim. I did the quilting on my Singer 66 red eye treadle.
I used gold thread to match the stitching in the jeans. An I used the waist band from the jeans to finish the top of the bag.
I spent a good portion of Saturday weeding and pruning in the garden. It is amazing how quickly the weeds grow! And the shrubs and roses as well. I had good intentions of doing a lot more gardening today but after I get started on the bag I couldn’t stop and it was 9 pm before I knew it. If anyone is interested it can be purchased here https://timquilts.patternbyetsy.com/listing/525170210/recycled-jeans-tote
Teddy Says HI!
I just got notice that my peacock feather quilt was accepted for the AQS Daytona Beach Show March 1 – 4.
I made a few videos of the progress while I was making it.
I will have to see if I can work out a trip to Florida to see it.
I am really and truly overwhelmed with all the support you have all given me! The hundreds of supportive comments from my post yesterday meant so much to me … My heart is full and I thank you all!
Today I worked on the Teddy Quilt
I had most of the quilting done but had to finish up Teddy.
I needed to add some more shading and I used crayons….which might seem really odd, but they actually used crayons for tinting quilts way back in the 40’s and they seem to have held up so I am using them here. (and then quilting over it heavily)
I added a lot of treadle quilting to it after I got the shading done
here it is after quilting is nearly done
Next I will wash it (by machine on delicate) then lay it flat to dry, then trim it and square it, and last bind it. I will use more of the gold silk dupioni fabric for the binding.
It is really pretty large , about 60 inches wide.
I am not sure that Teddy understands that it is him……
He really prefers the quilt in this picture because he is allowed to play rough with it ….
I have been so busy I have forgotten to blog! I am not sure where the time goes but I suspect that a lot of it is sewn into a quilt 😉
If you have been reading for a while you have seen this quilt in progress before. (I am close to the half way point now)
I have a lot of time to think while hand quilting. One of the things I have been thinking about is making a pattern for it.
I wondered how it would work as a whole cloth rather than an applique. Rather than take away hand quilting time to try it out I decided to try it on my treadle. Just the center motif.
I realize not everyone would quilt it like this but I wanted to see if it had potential for a whole cloth design and I think it does, either for machine or hand quilting. I plan to offer it as a pattern soon.
If you want to see how I did the quilting here are a few videos
I have also been practicing my treadle embroidery
I have this stack of fabric that is calling my name
They will turn into a quilt top soon. I have some ideas but need to think for another day (sometimes I have more ideas than fabric)
One of my favorite machines died and I found another for 20 dollars…..I took the two of them apart and made them into one working machine
I’ll piece the new top on this one.
Back to hand quilting now……..it is cool enough today to get under a quilt without passing out!
I decided to make a snowflake quilt. I started by cutting a large snowflake that would fit this piece of fabric (about 44 inches square)
I traced the outline onto the fabric and then layered it for quilting.
I am doing the quilting on one of my treadle machines
Here are some pictures (click pictures to enlarge)
I made a few videos of the process so far
Here is Teddy trying it out
I am auditioning a border for the teddy quilt
Here are some more progress pictures of the rose quilt
